Bedford Blues have finalised their pre-season programme and are delighted to announce friendlies against Premiership giants Saracens as well as high-flying National One sides Blackheath and Plymouth Albion.
The opening pre-season fixture will be at home against our friends Plymouth Albion at 3pm on Saturday 12th August. Former Blue Kieran Hallett is now head coach at Brickfields, and he will be bringing his charges to Goldington Road for what is sure to be a rip-roaring encounter - much like the 2005 Powergen Shield final at Twickenham.
The following Saturday, Goldington Road will be opening its gates once again as the Blues welcome European Champions Saracens to Bedford. The two clubs have been working together for a number of seasons and the annual fixture will give fans the chance to see some of the world's best players on display in what is always a hard-fought game.
Bedford complete their pre-season fixtures with a trip to one of the world's oldest rugby clubs, Blackheath, on Saturday 26th August. The fixture will see Bedford going up against another former Blue as Blackheath are now headed up by James Shanahan who joined the club over the summer having left his position with Old Albanians.
Looking ahead to the pre-season campaign, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "I'm delighted that we have been able to set up three extremely competitive encounters that will really test the lads and tell us a lot about how well they have gelled together over pre-season.
"Kieran has made a huge impression at Plymouth as they finished last season on a real high winning 13 games in a row. Blackheath will be another stern test especially with Shanners at the helm and I think that their fans will be expecting big things this season. Saracens, of course, are Saracens and we know that we will be taking on the best side in the Northern Hemisphere."
Tickets for the games against Plymouth Albion and Saracens will be available on the club website - - soon. Tickets for the encounter against Blackheath can be bought directly from the club at
