Last week it was confirmed that after 96 appearances and six tries for Bedford Blues, Camilo Parilli-Ocampo would be moving on to pastures new at Chinnor next season.

A quarter of a century ago Parilli-Ocampo was just a small boy growing up amongst the agriculture of Valera, western Venezuela, not well-known as a hotbed of young rugby talent. But fast-forward to today and that boy is now much, much bigger and an invaluable contributor to the Bedford Blues pack, having played at Goldington Road since the 2014/15 season.

Stopping off in Colombia along the way, Parilli-Ocampo benefitted from a spell in Leicester Tigers Academy and made his Tigers first-team debut during the 2010/11 Anglo-Welsh Cup ties against Ospreys and Bath. He was also part of Leicester’s Aviva Premiership Rugby ‘A’ League title winning side and was capped by England Students following his time with Loughborough Students in the national leagues.

Speaking about his departure from Goldington Road, Camilo said: "Bedford has been my home for the past five seasons and I have very fond memories. The Blues helped me get my love for the game back after two serious injuries and I will be eternally grateful for that.

"Goldington Road is an amazing place and, weirdly enough, I will miss the slope. The fans have been amazing and have really taken in my parents, I think people will be more gutted that they are leaving rather than me!

"Finally, I would like to thank Geoff, Mike, Alex Rae, all the medical staff, the Strength & Conditioning staff and all of the behind the scenes staff for giving me this opportunity. I'm disappointed not to have been able to earn my 100th cap for the Blues but I'll be sure to come back and support the team in the future. Come On You Blues!"

Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer added: "Everyone at Goldington Road would like to thank Camilo for all of his hard work over the past five seasons and wish him the very best of luck in the next chapter of his rugby career. He's an amazing character who has had to deal with a terrible injury this season and everyone is looking forward to seeing him back in regular action."
