FIVE MORE JOIN ACADEMY DEVELOPMENT SQUAD
Bedford Blues are delighted to announce that five further players have joined the Blues Academy Development Squad.
The Blues announced recently a new approach to developing young players for a future in the professional game with the set-up of the Academy Development Squad. These players will train as part of the Blues first team squad with their Strength & Conditioning programmes being overseen by the Blues first team coaches. If they are not playing for the Blues, then they will play with a partner club in the National Leagues where they will have the opportunity to develop by playing regular adult league rugby.
Robinson, a 19 year old hooker, played for the Blues Academy for the last two seasons. He was born in Redditch and went to school at Bromsgrove School. Initially a prop, who played for Bromsgrove, Worcester Academy, Midlands U18s and England South at U16, he converted to hooker last season. Charley, who works as a courier, will be playing for Bedford Athletic, in the National 3 (Midlands) league.
Castiglione, a 22 year old prop, who played for the Blues Academy in 2012/13, was born in Welwyn, and played for Cheshunt, Welwyn and Oaklands College. He was recommended to Hertford when he left the Blues Academy, and has played the last three seasons there. Louis, who lives in Hertfordshire, and is a Personal Trainer, will continue to play for Hertford in National 3 (South).
Turner, an 18 year old back row, joined the Blues Academy at the end of last season. He was born in Chipping Norton, and went to school in Chipping Norton and Henley College. He played for Chipping Norton, Banbury and Wasps Academy. He made his Wasps “A” league debut against Harlequins. Jacob, who is a student at the University of Bedfordshire, will be playing for Bishop’s Stortford in National 2 (South).
Crocker, an 18 year old scrum half, joined the Blues Academy at the end of last season. He was born in Reading, lives in Wokingham, and went to school at Henley College. He played junior rugby for Redingensians, was part of the Wasps Academy and represented Berkshire at U20, and Ireland at U18, playing against England and France last season. He has also played hockey for Berkshire at U16, and has an orange belt for judo. Alex, who is a student taking a gap year, will be playing for Redingensians in National 2 (South).
Hutler, an 18 year old winger, played for the Blues Academy for the last two seasons. He was born in Hertfordshire, lives in Wisbech, and went to the same school as Ali Price, Wisbech Grammar. He played junior rugby for West Norfolk, Eastern Counties and Midlands U18s. He is a keen cricketer, an athlete, holding his school record for the 100m and 200m, and footballer, having played for Cambridge United Academy. Ryan is a student taking a gap year, and will be playing for Bishop’s Stortford in National 2 (South).
These five players will join Dan Lewis, who was announced recently as the first player to join the Blues Academy Development squad.
Lewis, a 20 year old fly half, was born in Colchester and went to school at St. Joseph’s College, Ipswich. He was a member of the Blues Academy in the 2013/14 season, when he played for the England U18 Clubs and Schools XV. For the past two seasons Dan played for Oyonnax in the U23 league in France. He is a keen tennis player, a student at the University of Bedfordshire, and will be playing for Cambridge in National 1.
Denis Ormesher, the Blues Academy Director, said … “The lads have trained hard as part of the Blues 1st XV squad all summer, and have played their first few games with their partner clubs over the last couple of weeks. We are looking forward to seeing how they develop with the combination of training with the Blues, and playing adult rugby with one of our partner clubs.”
