KNOCKOUT MATCH FOCUS ON QUARTER FINAL THIS SATURDAY

It’s Cup Quarter Final week at Goldington Road as Blues head straight back into home action this Saturday against Ulster A in the British & Irish Cup knockout fixture (KO 3pm).

Following Saturday’s thrilling victory over Doncaster Knights, the Bedford boys return in confident spirits ahead of the Easter weekend match where they meet the sizeable challenge of the Northern Irish province.

The Belfast based side will travel hunting revenge over the Blues after Bedford did the Cup double over the Ulstermen two years ago to win both Pool stage encounters and secure a home Quarter Final against Jersey in 2016.

A home win for Mike Rayer’s men would secure an away semi-final berth at either Ealing Trailfinders or Cornish Pirates on the weekend of Saturday 21st April.

Bedford, having previously progressed to the B&I Cup Final in 2011 losing out narrowly to Bristol 17-14, are keen to put together a Cup run of similar stature having already beaten Munster, Nottingham and Ospreys select in this season’s group stages.

The players will need a strong home support behind them for this one-off tie with a place in the semi-finals awaiting the winner in what will be the final year of the current competition, but expect a tough encounter against a strong Ulster A side.

Tickets for the match can be purchased online, saving £4 each adult, by clicking here.

Hospitality is still available for just £28 per person (not including match ticket), for a three-course lunch and entertainment in the Blues Marquee.  To book email sophie@bedfordrugby.co.uk today.

Alternatively take a liquid lunch in one of our bars whilst reading the match day programme, our choice would be the upstairs Eagle Bar for a pint of this week’s Guest Ale; Wainwright’s Golden Ale.

Just before kick-off Olney Rugby Club’s Under 7s will perform the SSG Services Guard of Honour, let’s give them and the Bedford Bear a loud cheer as the teams run out on to the pitch.

At half-time there will be a special presentation from the Friends of the Blues to Chairman Geoff Irvine, conducted under the tones of our returning MC Sam Roberts who will entertain you throughout the day.

After the match head to the Blues Marquee for the Anglian Fasteners’ Man of the Match presentation, mix with players and enjoy our returning DJ as we get the holiday weekend party started.

If you’re looking to mull over the match in a slightly quieter environment, then head up to the Eagle Bar where the Michael R Peters Final Whistle will have all the immediate post-match reaction and expert analysis from both coaches and players.

Again it’s sure to be a chilly one on Saturday so don’t forget to take a look in our well-stocked club shop where you’ll find plenty of hats, scarves and jackets, as well as all the latest Replica and leisurewear. Remember as always to show your season tickets for 10% off any purchase.
