MATCH DAY FOCUS ON MUNSTER THIS SATURDAY

Bedford Blues are back at Goldington Road this Saturday 16th December for a festive fixture v Munster A in the return B&I Cup battle (KO 3pm).

Sitting first and second in the group, the Blues will be looking to solidify their place at the top following last weekend’s impressive victory in Cork, but expect a reaction from the reigning champions who will be hunting revenge for last Friday’s encounter.

Mike Rayer’s men came from 14 points down in Ireland to turn things around, scoring 25 unanswered points with tries from Sean McCarthey and a brace for top try scorer Dean Adamson as Will Hooley added two conversions and two penalties.

In Munster’s opening two games of the B&I Cup they have secured convincing wins over both, Nottingham and Ospreys Select, in a similar manner to the Blues with only a point separating them in the standings before last weekend’s result.

This Saturday’s visitors had never previously lost at Irish Independent Park and boosted by some of their first team squad players, this weekend’s fixture is set to be a thrilling challenge in front of the Blues 16th man at Goldington Road.

Bedford can draw upon some good home form of their own with their last two home performances proving far too strong for Hartpury and Nottingham as the hosts ran out 33-7 and 30-12 victors, respectively.

Discounted tickets for the match are available online here.

Pick up a programme on arrival and head to one of the many bars to settle into the friendly atmosphere with your favourite tipple, our choice this week would be the upstairs Eagle Bar for a selection of hand pull ales from Bedford’s own Eagle IPA, the league’s own Greene King IPA or this week’s festive Guest Ale; Blitzen from Black Sheep Brewery.

Marquee hospitality is again sold out, but feel free to pop in and buy into our raffle from Hollie on reception in aid of Prostate Cancer in the Primrose Unit at Bedford Hospital as they raise funds for specialist detection software.

As both sets of players run out with the Bedford Bear on a cold December afternoon, let’s give a loud cheer for the SSG Guard of Honour who this week are the winners of the Bedford & Kempston and North Bedfordshire School Sport Partnerships rugby knockout competition.

At half-time, please take a minute to listen into MC Mark Wood who will announce details on our donation to Macmillan Cancer Support from Ladies Day 2017 at the Blues. A big thank you to supporters who attended that match on a record breaking achievement.

After the final whistle, and following our Man of the Match presentation, our Christmas Party steps up a gear with the rather fitting, Irish band; Muckle on stage in the marquee to play into the evening and get the festivities going.

For anyone wishing to review the match in a quieter venue, the Michael R Peters Final Whistle will have immediate post match reaction and expert analysis from players and coaches alike, in the upstairs Eagle Bar.

Before leaving, supporters should pop into the Club Shop to find their perfect Christmas present or a few stocking fillers for the big day with new items added in time for Santa. Remember to show your season ticket for 10% off any purchase.
