It’s 118 days since Bedford Blues were last in action at Goldington Road, so to say that the squad is champing at the bit for a return to the green, green grass of home as they take on Cambridge under the Friday night lights would be an understatement.

With plenty of comings and goings over the summer, the squad for Friday’s game will have an array of new faces including centre Oskar Hirskyj-Douglas who has penned a deal with the Blues following a successful summer trial. The former Wasps, Henley, Chinnor, Loughborough Students and England Sevens man is joined in the squad by fellow trialist Andrew Boye who starts at tight-head prop.

Goldington Road will also be welcoming a host of new signings to the Blues fold as Charlie Reed, Sam Leeming, Joe Atkinson, Dan Temm, Robbie Smith and Joe Wrafter all make their debuts from the start while Grayson Hart is named in the replacements.

Looking ahead to the game, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “We are really looking forward to the game on Friday, it will be great to see all the new lads have their first hit out. We are excited by what we’ve seen so far and now comes the chance to put all the hard work into action.

“Cambridge have recruited well this summer and they are sure to give us a stern test on Friday night. With only two pre-season friendlies, this game is massive in terms of our preparations and that is why we’ve pretty much thrown all our new signings in from the start. It should be a great evening of rugby. ”
