MATCH PREVIEW V CORNISH PIRATES

Bedford Blues have named their 22 man squad which will be heading to Penzance to take on the Cornish Pirates in the first pool game of the inaugural Championship Cup on Sunday afternoon

Just three weeks after the Blues last made the trip to the West Country, they head to the Mennaye Field once again looking for another victory after they picked up a 29-30 win over the Pirates in the league.

Looking ahead to the fixture Alex Rae, who has headed up the coaching for the cup fixtures, said: "The lads have enjoyed an extra week off and there has been plenty of rest and recuperation ahead of the return to training this week. The players have come back fresh and are really looking forward to the cup competition.

"We've got a great opportunity to continue the good work and winning ways of the league, but we know that the Mennaye Field is always a tough place to go. We dug deep last month to pick up a valuable win and we'll have to do much more of the same this weekend to get our cup run off to a good start."

There are plenty of changes to the Blues team ahead of this weekend's fixture with Chris Czekaj making a first start of the season while Harry Davies starts at fullback, Ed Coulson returns to fly half and Alex Gliksten gets the nod at scrum half. Hayden King starts at prop with Tadgh McElroy at hooker while Oli Curry and Jack Nay return and Ed Taylor captains the side. There is also a warm welcome to Northampton Saints prop Toby Trinder who takes a place on the replacements bench.
