MATCH PREVIEW V RICHMOND

Bedford Blues Championship season comes to an intriguing end on Saturday afternoon with everything still to play for as Richmond visit Goldington Road.

After losing the midweek encounter with Nottingham, the Blues know that the race for third place in the Greene King IPA Championship is still on and a bonus point win would secure the accolade for Mike Rayer's men.

However, Bedford know that they are in for one hell of a match against a Richmond side which has truly enjoyed its second full season in the league and have only won one less game than the Blues as Round 22 approaches.

No matter what happens during the game, there will be plenty of cause for celebration at Goldington Road as the season comes to an end and the Bedford Blues faithful prepare to say goodbye to two club stalwarts. The evergreen Paul Tupai will be bringing his illustrious playing career to an end on Saturday afternoon while Forwards Coach Martin Hynes will also be bidding a final farewell to the Blues.

Speaking about the encounter, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: "We've had a tremendous season but we cannot take our eye off the goal which has always been to finish as high up the table as possible. We have the chance to finish third but we will have to be at our absolute best against a very well organised Richmond team who will be looking to finish their own campaign on a high. All the ingredients are there for a fantastic afternoon of rugby and that's exactly what we are expecting."

Bedford make 12 changes from the team that started against Nottingham with only Ed Taylor, Paul Tupai and Elliot Clements-Hill retaining their starting positions. Justin Blanchet is ruled out with a broken arm while Harry Sheppard took a knock to the head during the defeat at Lady Bay and also misses out.
