MATCH PREVIEW V YORKSHIRE CARNEGIE

Bedford Blues will be heading up to Yorkshire on Sunday afternoon looking to return to winning ways in the Greene King IPA Championship.

Following narrow losses to Coventry, London Irish and London Scottish, Bedford head into the game looking for a return to form which saw them kicking off the season with wins over Nottingham and Jersey Reds.

Last season’s visit to Emerald Headingley Stadium was a tough one as the upright denied the Blues a draw when Will Hooley’s late conversion attempt bounced off and condemned the Blues to a 38-36 defeat having  fought back from 38-24 down with five minutes remaining.

Looking ahead to the game, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “The lads were absolutely gutted at the end of last week’s game against London Scottish. They gave their all but fell just short which was agonising. Recovery has been slow but good and they have gone about their work this week in an efficient manner to make sure we are fully energised for Sunday.

“Yorkshire Carnegie have had a tough start to the Championship season and they will no doubt be looking to get their season back on track this weekend. I think we’ll see two teams looking to really attack, put in a good performance and do all they can to get the all-important win. It should be a great game!”

Bedford make a number of changes to the starting line-up which faced London Scottish last week with Harry Davies, Fraser Strachan and Jacob Atkins all starting in the backs while Charlie Clare, Mark Flanagan and Jack Nay come into the pack. There is a welcome return to action for Will Hooley who takes a place on the bench alongside Dragons front rower Gerard Ellis who has been brought in as cover.
