The off-season at Bedford Blues has been a very busy one this summer with the usual facilities works and the creation of a new hospitality suite at Goldington Road.

In partnership with SDC Builders, the Club are well underway with a major project in replacing the former Lifesure Suite boxes with a permanent shared hospitality suite above the players gym near the Bedford Blues entrance.

The new suite, behind the west end goal posts overlooking the pitch, will offer the club’s premium hospitality choice with details announced shortly on the new package. The project has been mainly funded by a legacy left to the club by a supporter, who wished to add value to the club’s long term future and economy.

Follow progress on the new suite on social media with images now being updated daily.

Elsewhere around the ground work hasn’t stopped with a full and extensive summer ground improvement and refurbishment programme.

With support from the RFU funding of £50,000 for the development of facilities, Blues’ Followers and Former Players donations, plus £20,000 raised from the Friends of the Blues, the Club have added significant sums to prioritise the following areas along with many smaller projects:

  • New Lifesure Hospitality Suite Programme.
  • Additional Toilets behind SDC Suite for guests and general public.
  • Revamped Ladies Toilets in the Scrum Hall including new disabled toilet.
  • Removal of 16 seats in the Eagle Stand to comply with new Green Code Guide and Health and Safety laws. This will allow supporters to access all rows of the stand safely without walking over benches.
  • Heating and lighting review around entire ground with first phase installation.
  • Baby changing facilities added to the Marquee Disabled Toilet.
  • Blues Marquee Summer Maintenance Programme including roof repairs, tightening of structure, full clean and painting etc.
  • Car Park Maintenance including new white lining of all spaces.
  • Two new boilers installed in changing rooms and Eagle Bar.
  • Further compliance matters including the welcome support of Wady’s Electrical in reviewing the historic wiring of Goldington Road.
  • Updating of general facilities including new doors, storage areas, ceilings, trunking etc with particular thanks to David Gibbs Carpentry.
  • New Gantry areas and repaired terraces with thanks to Midland Scaffolding Services.
  • Constant improvements to the playing surfaces of Bedford Blues thanks to groundsman Chris Ashworth and his team. Thank you also to Henry Saunders in supporting the loan of a water tank to help us in these extreme conditions.
  • Followers Works Programme continues every Saturday morning with all support welcomed. Just turn up and lend a hand!

Blues Operations Manager Gareth Alred said: "In addition to the long list of ground improvements we have already started our general summer maintenance programme of cleaning, painting, fixing and general making good. We are indebted to The Followers who support us throughout the summer with this work through their regular Saturday morning working party and other efforts throughout the week.

"We are also extremely grateful to SDC, one of our main sponsors, who have undertaken on our behalf a full survey of the grounds as well as leading the major hospitality suite project above the gym and we look forward to showing supporters around in the season.

"Our emphasis remains enhancing our spectator experience and enjoyment, improving the facilities for players at the club and ensuring our ground and facilities meet all the statutory requirements.

“Supporters will hopefully have noticed improvements year on year in recent times, whilst also remaining with in our strict budgets.”
