Following a disappointing defeat away to Cornish Pirates at the Mennaye, stand in skipper Paul Tupai is determined to right the wrongs from last time out and give Bedford supporters something to celebrate ahead of the Doncaster Knights clash at Goldington Road this Friday (Kick Off 7:45pm).

The Blues suffered a heartbreaking loss last Sunday, running in just two tries against an unstoppable Pirates side playing the best rugby they have produced this season, but this Friday sees Bedford on a revenge mission and the former Samoan international is confident the boys will be out in force in front of a home crowd.

Tupai said: “It was very disappointing to go down to Cornwall and get a result like that, we didn’t get off the bus to play like that. It didn’t go right for us and there’s no excuse for playing like that in a Bedford Blues top, the boys are hurting from that.

“We’ve put to bed what happened on Sunday as we can’t get anything out of it. We’ve had a good week this week at training, we’ve talked about things and we’re just looking forward to getting out there on Friday.”

The experienced and versatile second row or flanker is focusing on one key facet this weekend having seen his side leak nine tries in Cornwall, following a fantastic defensive display against Yorkshire Carnegie a fortnight ago.

“It’s pretty obvious what we’ll be focusing on, Pirates ran in nine tries so defence is one of the big things. I think the main thing to focus on is getting ourselves right and just make sure we’re all on the same hymn sheet and come out and put things right.

“Doncaster have a big pack, they run hard and they’ve got a good back line with a few guys who know how to finish so we’ve got to compete with them upfront. I think they got the better of us upfront when we went there so we need to put that right.

“We’ve got to apologise to our supporters for our performance in Cornwall, they travelled a long way to come and watch. The best thing we can do is to come out on Friday and put on a performance, not just for them but for ourselves and for the jersey.”
