Joe Vandermolen picked up the coveted Bedford Blues Players' Player of the Season award at the Former Players Association Dinner on Friday night.

Throughout the season, Blues players had been asked at the end of each game who the stand out player was and when all of the votes were counted it was the big number eight who led the field with Nick Fenton-Wells in second place and Gloucester bound Mark Atkinson in third.

Vandermolen was presented with Players' Player of the Season award – which is sponsored by Steven Paige – by last year's winner Ben Gulliver. Joe also received a watch courtesy of Barovic Jewellers before taking part in a brief interview with Sam Roberts in which he took the time to thank his team mates for the accolade and looked forward to next season and helping the Blues back up the table.

There were further presentations on the night when Blues captain James Pritchard was formally recognised for surpassing Andy Finnie as Bedford's leading point scorer. The skipper passed Andy's total of 2616 back in January and it was only fitting that Mr Finnie was on hand to congratulate Pritch.

Bedford Blues chairman Geoff Irvine also praised Brendan Burke and Sacha Harding who are ending their Blues careers after amassing more than 20 years of experience between them. Both players received club jerseys with their appearance numbers embroidered on the front.

The dinner was rounded off by guest speaker Robert Jones who was the second Welsh scrum-half to win 50 caps for his country and featured in two Lions tours.
