The curtain came down on the Bedford Blues 2018/19 Championship campaign with the End of Season Gala Dinner on Friday night.

Players, coaches, directors and fans came together in the Blues Marquee to celebrate another wonderful season which saw the Blues finishing in third place once again as well as reaching the knockout stages of the cup.

With MC Sam Roberts orchestrating the event, Director of Rugby Mike Rayer, Captain Lee Dickson and Chairman Geoff Irvine all spoke and paid tribute to the amazing support that had followed the club whether at home or on the road.

Bedford Blues are delighted to announce that West Indies cricket captain, Jason Holder, will be our special guest speaker on Tuesday 4th June in the Blues Marquee.

With the ICC Cricket World Cup 2019 taking place throughout June and July, Holder will be joining us between West Indies matches, and just two days prior to their fixture against Australia at Trent Bridge.

Holder is currently playing for Northants CCC in six one-day games in preparation for the World Cup, our thanks to the County Cricket Club and West Indies Board for allowing this commitment.

Bedford Blues rounded off the Greene King IPA Championship season with a comprehensive 38-13 win over Nottingham at Goldington Road on Saturday afternoon.

Two penalty tries along with a brace from Matt Worley and one apiece for Ryan Hutler and Charlie Clare secured the win on a blustery afternoon which looked as if the wind would play a big impact on proceedings and neither team particularly keen to implement a kicking game.

The final round of the Greene King IPA Championship is upon us as Bedford Blues welcome Nottingham to Goldington Road on Saturday afternoon.

The Blues will be hoping to finish the season as they started it while making a claim for third spot but know that Ben Fowkes men will be in determined mood as they aim to finish as high up the table as possible.

Bedford head into the game off the back of a disappointing defeat to Ealing Trailfinders last week and will be hoping to put on a great final performance for the home fans.

Join Mike Rayer and his men to mark the end of another incredible season of rugby at Goldington Road whilst cheering them on to a crucial victory which would secure third place in the Championship table with Jersey Reds biting at the Blues’ heels.

Goldington Road will once again host the end of season East Midlands Cup Final as the local clubs battle for cup honours as the curtain comes down on the end of another campaign on Tuesday 30th April (KO 7:30pm).

Bedford Athletic who are the current holders of the cup, will be looking to defend their title having won against the odds last season defeating Peterborough Lions by 30 points to 19.

Their opponents this season will be the other Peterborough club who having slumped in recent years are now on the comeback trail with a very respectable fourth place finish this season in Midlands One East.

Bedford were on the wrong end of a 54-21 score line on Saturday afternoon against a rampant Ealing Trailfinders.

While the Blues scored three good tries through Dean Adamson, James Lennon and Pat Tapley, they conceded eight in the process against the side who had seen their Premiership ambitions thwarted 24 hours earlier when London Irish secured the Championship title with a win at Richmond.

The home side started impressively and secured the try bonus point within half an hour. Rayn Smid crossed in the 12th minute before a Will Harries double made it 21-0 as Craig Willis converted all three.

Bedford Blues have named their squad for the penultimate Greene King IPA Championship fixture against Ealing Trailfinders on Saturday afternoon.

Trips to Vallis Way are notoriously tough, particularly with the home side still chasing promotion, but the Blues arrive off the back of a hard fought victory over Richmond and with the added bonus of a win over the hosts earlier in the season.

Tries from Chris Czekaj and Dean Adamson as well as 13 points from the boot of Will Hooley helped secure a 23-18 victory at Goldington Road back in January, but Bedford are expecting a huge challenge as Trailfinders look to chase down London Irish.

Good things come in threes and it is the case once again for Bedford Blues as they confirm a trio of names for next season’s squad.

Fly half Sam Leeming will be swapping the red of Hartpury for the Blue of Bedford following four years at the Gillman’s Ground while backs Ed Coulson and Pat Tapley have both put pen to paper on new deals to remain at Goldington Road.

Speaking about the captures, Blues Director of Rugby Mike Rayer said: “We are really excited about the shape of the squad so far. Being able to welcome Sam as well as having Pat and Ed signed up is wonderful news.
