Bedford Academy lost to a talented St. Joseph's College, Ipswich, side by 28pts - 12 at Goldington Road on Wednesday night.

Bedford Head Coach James Hinkins said .... "'St Joe's were hungrier for the ball, were better organised and made less unforced errors. This is a valuable learning experience we must learn from before Saturday when we face a more physical Oxford University Under 21 XV."

The Blues Academy play St. Joseph’s College Ipswich at Goldington Road on Wednesday October 9th KO 7.30 pm. The bar is open, all are welcome. 

St. Joe’s, who are one of the most successful rugby schools in the South of England, have contributed a number of players to the Blues Academy over the last two seasons including ex-St. Joe’s pupil winger/full back Chris Lord who signed for the Blues 1st XV this summer. 

Bedford Blues have partnered with Bedford Company No Nonsense Technology for the launch of the club’s new website.

The Blues new website has been built to meet the evolving needs of the rugby club.  It has a fresh modern design providing clearer navigation with the new homepage delivering a snapshot of latest headlines and results. The new site is fully compatible with all modern browsers, operating systems and devices as well as being smartphone friendly.

For the second week running the Blues Academy lost to an RFU funded Premiership Academy going down by 33pts – 7 against Leicester Tigers Academy at Goldington Road. 

Blues’ Academy Director Denis Ormesher said ... “Saints and Tigers on consecutive weekends is about as tough as it gets – exactly the challenge our guys need”.

The new look Bedford Blues website will no longer link to an official fans forum or “Have Your Say” as it was known. Following feedback received from supporters and ever increasing issues with regard to running, administrating and moderating Have Your Say, it was decided to close this forum.

The Club believes that moving forward any fans forum should be separate from the official web site.

After three losses in the Greene King IPA Championship Bedford Blues are looking to kick start their season at the Memorial Stadium on Sunday afternoon when they face high-flying Bristol.

Having put in a much improved performance against Leeds Carnegie last weekend at Goldington Road, the Blues will be hoping to go one step further at the ‘Mem’.

Prop Nico Steenkamp misses out this weekend with a rib injury.  

Although the Blues welcome back Darren Fearn, Director of Rugby Mike Rayer has drafted in former Gloucester and Jersey loosehead Richard Barrington on an emergency loan from Saracens.

The Bedford Blues Academy is looking for players who have the ability to become the Blues 1st XV players of the future.

Last remaining places for Mike Rayer’s Testimonial dinner on Friday 11th October. Testimonial Committee member Ben Whetstone said:  “We couldn’t have arranged for a more spectacular speaker on the night in the form of Wales, Barbarians and British Lions Legend Phil Bennett.

Throw in the appearance of a Male Voice Choir, a Charity Raffle for Mike’s chosen charity Keech Hospice Care, and an Auction of some unique items, this is an event in Bedford not to be missed.”

The Blues Academy face a tough home game on Wednesday against an older Cambridge U21 XV.  The game is at Goldington Road, kick off 7.30 pm.  Admission is free, the bar is open, and all are welcome.

Cambridge, who were relegated from National One to National Two (South) at the end of last season, have recruited well over the summer and started their National Two South campaign with a good win away at Redruth on Saturday.

Bedford Blues have announced that Blues Academy player Chris Lord has been signed for the Blues senior squad for the 2013/14 season after training with the Blues 1st XV during the summer.  Lord impressed in the Blues training game against Bournemouth scoring three tries, and appeared against Northampton Saints and Saracens in the Blues pre-season friendlies.

19 year old Lord, a winger/full back, joined the Blues Academy a year ago.  A pupil at St.Joseph’s School Ipswich before joining the Blues he played wing for the England U18s Clubs & Schools XV.
