The club has learnt with great sadness that our oldest Former Player, at 99-years-old, Ron ‘RAB’ Rogers has sadly passed away this week.

Ron made 29 appearances for the 1st XV between 1939-48, whilst also representing the East Midlands. His early career at Goldington Road was interrupted by the Second World War, but he did make appearances for the Blues when he was on leave, most memorably in the fly-half jersey.

Ron was born in 1917 in a flat above Gascoigne Lawnmowers in Tavistock Street. He went to Ampthill Road School and from there gained a scholarship to Bedford School.

Bedford Blues are delighted to confirm that Michael Le Bourgeois has been named captain at Goldington Road for a second season.

Booj, as he is known to fans and teammates alike, moved from Jersey to Bedford in 2013 and quickly established himself as one of the leading players both on and off the Goldington Road pitch.

Speaking exclusively to Bedfordshire on Sunday, Le Bourgeois said: "I'm very proud, as I was last year having been given the honour of leading the boys out. I'm over the moon and can't wait to get started. We're back in preseason, we've had a few weeks of it and can't wait for the season to get underway.

Bedford Blues have finalised their pre-season programme and are delighted to announce friendlies against Premiership giants Saracens as well as high-flying National One sides Blackheath and Plymouth Albion.

The opening pre-season fixture will be at home against our friends Plymouth Albion at 3pm on Saturday 12th August. Former Blue Kieran Hallett is now head coach at Brickfields, and he will be bringing his charges to Goldington Road for what is sure to be a rip-roaring encounter - much like the 2005 Powergen Shield final at Twickenham.

This summer Bedford Blues Community team will be hosting not one, but two big pre-season rugby camps in August for children of all ages at Goldington Road.

The first camp will be a four-day rugby extravaganza from Monday 21st to Thursday 24th August under our new coaching direction being rolled out across the region; ‘Learn to Play the Blues way’.

This exciting new project will allow children to experience the Blues rugby, culture and values whilst being coached and led by current Bedford Blues first team players. The ‘Blues’ way will focus on the below five core principles.

The deadline for 2017 Autumn Internationals ticket applications for Twickenham to watch England closes at the end of June for all 2017-18 Bedford Blues Season Ticket holders.

This autumn Blues members will have the chance to watch Eddie Jones’ troops battle against Argentina, Australia and Samoa with good availability for the first and last encounter, whilst ticketing is very limited for the Australia test.

Bedford Blues have increased their squad size for the 2017/18 Championship season up to 27 after two more members of the current crop put pen to paper on new deals.

Bolstering the front row options for another campaign will be prop Dave Spelman and hooker Jacob Fields.

Spelman, 23, suffered a frustrating first season at Goldington Road. Having featured in the matchday squad on a regular basis, he picked up an innocuous looking knee injury in training at the tail-end of 2016 that ended up ruling him out for the rest of the season.

The GKIPA Championship fixtures for the 2017/18 season have been announced with Bedford Blues opening their account away in the capital against Richmond on Saturday 2nd September before hosting their first home game versus London Scottish at Goldington Road a week later.

September will be a busy and difficult opening month with five fixtures for Mike Rayer’s men, including Ealing Trailfinders away, Bristol’s title favourite galaticos at home on Saturday 23rd before finishing the month with the always enjoyable trip to Jersey to face the Reds.
