The latest series from Bedford Blues Events; join us every first Thursday of the month in The Burrow at the Blues as iconic club commentator, Sam Roberts welcomes some of the best names around to recall tales from their careers in 'Sporting Stories'.

WHERE TO FIND US
The Burrow at the Blues is the newest hospitality venue at Bedford Blues RFC, located in the comfortable and warm surroundings of the South East corner of Goldington Road.
For each event, we advise basing yourselves on nearby Bushmead Avenue (FREE Parking from 6pm) with a short walk towards Goldington Road, where you will find The Burrow accessible to the right hand side of the M&J Group Stand accessed through the gates directly opposite the junction connecting both roads.

The best chicken for the best events nights in town! Available on the night will be an additional dining option from our resident Burrow caterers, Chicken George.
Food can be ordered at the bar from anytime after doors open so do so at your convenience for table service prior to the main action of the evening getting underway from 8pm.
A select menu of burgers & chicken strips will be available on each night including some of Chicken George's most renowned flavours including Biggie's Buffalo, Mango Rubicon and Honey BBQ!

Mark Ramprakash - Thursday 3rd April
Arguably more famous for winning Strictly Come Dancing than his cricketing exploits, Mark Ramprakash has seen it all throughout his career in sport and showbusiness.
Ramprakash was one of the most prolific batters of his generation in English first class cricket. Ramprakash ended his career with 35,659 first class runs at an average of 53.14 with 114 centuries and 147 fifties and he played in 52 Tests, scoring 2,350 runs.
He was chosen as one of the Wisden Cricketers’ Of The Year for 2007 and awarded an MBE in 2013.

KARL DICKSON
No stranger to Goldington Road, our first guest was none other than Karl Dickson!
Former scrum-half, Dickson spoke about his career and a few tales along the way. A graduate of the Blues Academy, he spent five years at Goldington Road, making 107 appearances and scoring 33 tries. Most notably, he was part of the victorious 2005 Powergen Shield side at Twickenham.
A move to Harlequins in 2009 saw Dickson excel at the top-tier, winning the Premiership in 2012 as part of 171 appearances at Twickenham Stoop.
Upon retirement, Dickson took up the whistle and has officiated at the highest level, including refereeing in the Premiership, Six Nations and Rugby World Cup.
SARAH HUNTER
Continuing the rugby theme early doors, none other than England Rugby's most capped international in history, Sarah Hunter joined us in The Burrow.
The current England Women's Defence Coach looked back on her career at the elite level of the game following retirement last year.
Hunter - a winner of rugby's greatest prize as a player - also spoke about the 2025 World Cup which is being held in this country - and England are huge favourites.
PAMELA COOKEY
Switching away from the rugby theme, our next guest in The Burrow at the Blues was one of the most recognised faces in netball; England legend, Pamela Cookey.
A two-time Commonwealth Games medalist, who captained her country through one of the most successful periods in the sport, Cookey is a recognisable figurehead for England Netball who mostly played Goal Attack (GA).
Capped over 100 times in an international career that spanned over a decade, Cookey played her domestic netball for teams including Team Bath and Surrey Storm.
She is now a familiar name in punditry, commentating on more than just netball, including a stint at the recent Olympic Games in Paris.
DEVON MALCOLM
Our final Sporting Stories guest of 2024 was the enigmatic Devon Malcolm!
Former England cricketer, Malcolm regaled his time at the top level of the sport following domestic success for Derbyshire, Northamptonshire and Leicestershire. Having shared a dressing room with the likes of Phil Tufnell, a lot of laughs were shared!
Nick Mullins
Our first guest of 2025 was none other than Nick Mullins, renowned commentator and one of the most recognised voices in sport.
Most widely known for covering rugby, Mullins has also been an Olympics commentator, with additional stints at Wimbledon, University Boat Race, London Marathon and many more major events.
Tom Youngs
A former Blue, who made 24 appearances scoring five tries between 2006-08, England rugby great, Tom Youngs joined us to reflect on his life in rugby and his new venture into farming.
Advocate of the Championship, having spent four seasons in top flight, Youngs most famously represented Leicester Tigers with international honour and prestige for England and the British & Irish Lions.
Still heavily involved in the game with brother, Ben currently at Leicester; Youngs is a highly regarded figure and returns to his old stomping ground to share stories of hsi career within rugby.
