Obituary - Gerald S.S. ‘Nuts’ Gilbert

Posted: 29th April 2020

We were sorry to learn of the death of former player Gerald ‘Nuts’ Gilbert who passed away last week at the age of 94. We believe that Gerald was most probably our oldest living player.

He made 94 appearances for the 1st XV between 1948-58 as well as playing many times for the Wanderers.

Gerald (pictured back row, centre) was from Caldicote where he was a newsagent. He was also a keen village cricketer.

Budge Rogers described ‘Nuts’ as an equally adept full back, scrum half and centre.

Our thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
