Blues raise record Ladies Day donation

Posted: 9th December 2019

Bedford Blues were pleased to present another record-breaking cheque, this year for £11,122 to Macmillan Cancer Support at Saturday’s match.

Following another incredible Ladies Day on Saturday 5th October against near neighbours Ampthill; Blues supporters were again extremely generous in their support of Macmillan for the 12th annual ‘Pink Day’ at Goldington Road.

This was the club’s third year raising money for our Cancer Charity Partner; Macmillan Cancer Support. The Blues faithful helped the club to raise the staggering amount of funds through collections, auctions, raffles and much more, aided by the large attendance of nearly 3,300 for the local derby.

The Special Edition match day jerseys proved incredibly popular, all sold at auction online and post-game in the Blues Marquee live auction with MC Sam Roberts.

With the help of the fantastic Macmillan volunteers, and of course our loyal supporters, Goldington Road was transformed into an odyssey of pink and green for the day which saw us yet again, break the record for the amount of funds raised.

A special mention must go to the Blues’ main shirt sponsor Blue Chip, who kindly donated over £1,000 to Macmillan in support of Ladies Day 2019.

The club would also like to say a huge thank you to all of the sponsors who both supported and provided prizes on the day, in particular 5th Avenue Hair & Beauty who provided treatments throughout the afternoon to many of the ladies who visited the Marquee.

Bedford Blues Chief Operating Officer, Gareth Alred, said: “Once again we would like to thank all of our fantastic supporters at Goldington Road on helping us to make Ladies Day 2019 the best yet in terms of money raised.

“The ground was a hive of activity throughout the day, with activities stretched beyond just the marquee this year. We must thank our incredible sponsors and partners who helped make the event such a huge success. To raise this record amount, over £11,000, for a charity close to many of our hearts demonstrates the generosity of our wonderful club and Blues family.

“Macmillan Cancer Support were a pleasure to work with again, we now look forward to hearing about the projects the funds support across Bedfordshire.”
