Rugby Preview
Mike Rayer’s troops will be hunting local bragging rights and a turn in fortunes having lost to Ampthill on both occasions so far this season in the Cup competition.
Bedford, currently sitting 11th in the table, will be hoping to be boosted by the return in fitness of some key players. A win over Paul Turner’s men would give them the chance to go ahead of Ampthill in the Championship.
With many familiar former Blues expected to play for the visitors, the battle of Bedfordshire is firmly up for grabs on Boxing Day. Teams and preview will be released on the website on Tuesday, Christmas Eve, at noon.
Ticketing, Gates & Entry
There will be no match day tickets available on the gate! With less than 100 left on sale, the game will be a SELL OUT!
Please ensure you arrive in plenty of time as the turnstiles will be very busy. All Goldington Road entrances, the Hospital Gate via Kimbolton Road and the Bushmead Gate entrance WILL be open for ticket holders from 12 noon.
Simply scan the tickets on a smart phone device at any entry turnstile. Arriving early will also ease congestion and help spectators find a spot before kick-off. Why not buy a match programme on entry and head to one of the many bars for some pre-game atmosphere.
Reminder: This is a Season Ticket holder inclusive fixture, please have your ST cards ready at the gate. Bring a Friend for Free vouchers do apply, but are capped due to capacity, arrive before 2pm to guarantee your voucher entry.
Please note: The Eagle Stand has been sold out for over a month. Save £4 and buy ground entry tickets online here, before they sell out.
Bars & Catering
There will be 11 watering holes available at Goldington Road on Boxing Day! The Scrum Bar is located at the west end of the ground behind the goalposts. For a slightly quieter and cosy atmosphere try the upstairs Eagle Bar, opposite the marquee, where you will find a great selection of hand-pull ales, including Marston’s Christmas Everyday, Eagle IPA and Greene King IPA.
The Blues Marquee will be a hive of activity all day with the largest bar, entry is restricted until kick-off for hospitality guests only, but is open to all during the game and post-match.
There will be trailer and mobile bars located near both the Eagle Stand entrance and just inside the Goldington Road gates, as well as beside the SDC Suite on the opposite side of the pitch and next to the Marquee side entrance.
The final bar well worth a visit to any newcomers is the Former Players Bar in the bottom corner of the ground, located next to our mini village. Here you will find our Coffee & Cake Horsebox, The Mulled Defender serving mulled wine and cider, and an additional new trailer bar.
We have three other catering outlets around the ground. Nos’ Nosh window hatch will be open serving hot food from the Scrum Hall. We also have two fast food outlets located by the front gate and opposite the Eagle Stand on the halfway line.
Optimis Consulting Guard of Honour
Boxing Day’s Guard of Honour join us from Bedford Junior Blues mini section, please give them and the players a loud cheer as they run out alongside the Bedford Bear, sponsored by DynoRod.
Post-Match Entertainment
Stick around after the final whistle for the Anglian Fasteners’ Man of the Match award with MC Sam Roberts in the marquee, followed by live music from the returning Ellie Antonini.
Club Shop
Don’t panic if you missed anything off your Christmas list! The Blues Club Shop will be open as usual, pop in to check out the latest merchandise. The shop will be open for one hour before kick-off, as well as at half-time and for one hour post-match.
