Mike Rayer’s troops will be looking for back to back home wins for the first time this season, buoyed by the impressive start to 2020. Following victory over Hartpury two weeks ago, the Blues are aiming to make Goldington Road a fortress once again in this calendar year.
Bedford will, however, be expecting a stern test against the Islanders who currently sit fourth in the Championship table having finished in that position last season, one place behind the Blues.
Last time out, the Channel Islands based side secured a bonus point win, scoring eight tries at Stade Santander International in a comfortable win over bottom side Yorkshire Carnegie.
The Blues had to settle for a losing bonus point against Cornish Pirates last Sunday to move onto 17 points, but harbour ambitions of building momentum and moving up the league table this weekend as they are only five away from 7th position.
Off the field, arrive early and secure your seat in one of our bars whilst mixing with fellow supporters and reading the match programme. Our meeting point would be either the Scrum Bar or Eagle Bar which will be showing both opening Six Nations matches. The clashes between Wales v Italy (KO 14:15) and Ireland v Scotland (KO 16:45) will be shown live around the ground, including on the big screen in the Scrum Bar.
This week’s Optimis Consulting Guard of Honour join us from Bromham Football Club. Please give them a loud cheer as they welcome the players to the field alongside the Bedford Bear.
Visit the new mini supporter village between the SDC Suite and Former Players on the north-east side of the ground. Spectators will this Saturday find our Trailer Bar, the Coffee & Cake Horsebox and a Blues Community stand with our match day charity partners.
An added treat for hospitality guests and the Goldington Road faithful will see the return of Bedford’s own MC Sam Roberts on the mic to encourage the Blues’ strongest 16th man. After the game join Sam for the Anglian Fasteners’ Man of the Match in the Marquee, mix with players and listen to live music with the returning Ellie Antonini.
