Blues Foundation appoint Harwood as Charity Manager

Posted: 29th April 2020

Blues Foundation are delighted to have become a registered charity as of March this year and have officially started work having appointed their new Foundation Manager, Tom Harwood.

Harwood, who officially began his role last week, brings plenty of experience, vision and enthusiasm to fledgling charity with the ambition for Blues Foundation to become one of Bedfordshire’s leading sporting charities.

Joining the Foundation from fellow Bedfordshire sports charity, Team Beds&Luton, Harwood said: “I am incredibly excited about the opportunity to further extend the Blues reach into the community and establish the Blues Foundation in its own right with a variety of unique projects.

“Sport and physical activity can be a powerful tool and through the Blues Foundation we will be able to impact on the wider community across Bedfordshire. I've seen first-hand how sport can change someone’s life and become a powerful tool in challenging circumstances.

“Personally, some of my earliest memories of sport are watching the Blues at Goldington Road; the role and this brand, are both something I feel extremely passionate about.”

Harwood’s appointment comes after the Blues Foundation secured full charity status in March, after 18 months of hard work behind the scenes from the Trustees. Over recent months, the Foundation have worked in partnership with Blues Community to deliver some pilot programmes, such as the MK SNAP project.

Blues Foundation is the charitable arm of Bedford Blues Rugby Club. Working across Bedfordshire and neighbouring areas, their vision is to inspire the community through the values of rugby for the advancement and promotion of positive and informed lifestyle choices.

One of the main objectives of the Blues Foundation is to provide and assist in opportunities for sport and community access into challenging demographics. This may be by reason of their youth, age, infirmity or disablement, poverty or social and economic circumstances or for the wider public in the interests of social welfare and with the aim of improving their conditions of life.
