Match Focus: Saracens on the horizon
Bedford Blues will reach the halfway point of the 2021 Championship season when they make the short trip to the capital to take on Saracens this Sunday (KO 1pm; Live Stream begins 12:30pm).

Mike Rayer will be searching for a first away victory of the 2021 Championship season and should be boosted in his preparations with the return of some key players from injury. Find out who has made it back in time for the game when full team news is released at noon on Friday.
Bedford have picked up six points from four outings so far, including winning two Try of the Week awards following more trademark attacking intent this term, but a sizeable challenge awaits the Blues as Saracens return to full strength.
Sarries have one goal this season; promotion back to the Premiership. Following a surprise opening day defeat at Cornish Pirates, they know there’s very little room for error. They have 10 points from three games and will be expecting to keep a perfect home record all season if they are to claim their play-off spot.
Mark McCall was able to call upon the services of Jamie George and Sean Maitland in their last match, but this week has the luxury of his full contingent of British & Irish Lions and internationals to choose from. That includes England captain Owen Farrell, who made four Bedford appearances from 2009-11.
We’ve Met Before
Alongside several pre-season friendlies in recent years, Bedford Blues and Saracens have faced each other on 33 previous occasions in competitive action. Saracens currently hold the superior head-to-head record with 18 victories to Bedford’s 13, while there have also been two draws.
Bedford won the first meeting between the sides over 120 years ago with an 11-5 success on 11th March 1899. The Blues enjoyed their greatest success against the London side in the late 1970s and early 1980s, including three away victories when Blues legendary scrum-half Ian Peck (246 club appearances) was captain.
However, Bedford will be searching for their first victory over Saracens since 10th April 1993 when they travel to the StoneX Stadium this Sunday.
This will be the first competitive fixture between the two sides since meeting in the Tetley Bitter Cup on 4th November 2000.
