Blues duo named in Champ Clubs Podcast Team of the Year

Blues duo Rich Lane and Joe Atkinson have been named in the inaugural Championship Clubs Podcast Team of the Year following stellar campaigns at Goldington Road.

Both Atkinson and Lane started every Championship fixture in the shortened 2021 campaign, the only two Bedford players to do so, and therefore played the most minutes throughout the season. 

Atkinson, 29, has been one of the Championship's standout performers for several seasons at Blues, London Scottish and Cornish Pirates; and is rewarded with a place in a Team of the Year selection for the first time.  

Scorer of two tries last season; a Championship Try of the Week winner against Hartpury and another against Ealing dedicated to his first child, Maxwell Joseph Atkinson, and he concluded the season atop of the Blues tackle charts.

Lane, 27, finished the campaign as Blues' joint top try scorer on four, one of which a Championship Try of the Week winner against Richmond. The others included a 60m dash against Cornish Pirates plus further attempts against Jersey Reds and Hartpury.   

Another standout Championship performer at both Goldington Road and Jersey Reds, Lane shone last season when also taking captaining the side for the majority of the campaign.
