Flanker Bailey Ransom joins the Blues

Posted: 29th June 2021

Bedford Blues are pleased to announce the acquisition of exciting flanker Bailey Ransom from Newcastle Falcons ahead of the 2021/22 Championship campaign.

The 24-year-old, now sponsored by Papillon Coffee House, joined Falcons’ Senior Academy set-up in 2019 and made one first-team appearance, starting the European Challenge Cup fixture with Cardiff Blues last season.

He was also part of the Newcastle ‘A’ side who faced England U20s in March.

On agreeing to join the Blues, Ransom said: “I’m over the moon to be joining Bedford Blues. I was looking at what I was going to do next after leaving Falcons and I couldn’t think of anywhere better than Goldington Road.

“Friends and coaches that I’ve spoken to have all said that Bedford is a great place to come to so I’m really excited. I had quite a few chats with Robbie Smith who was with me at Falcons this past year and everything he said about the environment and the style of play seemed to be the perfect fit."

Hailing from Millfield School, Ransom burst onto the scene while studying for a Business Management degree at Newcastle University, becoming captain of the BUCS team and representing England Students.

Head Coach, Alex Rae said: “Bailey is an athletic, lineout caller who has a great attitude and works extremely hard. He will provide great competition in the pack.

“We’ve had some great feedback off people who’ve played with and coached him and being within our environment, we’re confident that with regular game time we can help him grow as a player and a person.”
