Front row pair remain at Goldington Road
Bedford Blues are delighted to announce that front row pair Jacob Fields and Corrie Barrett have re-signed with the Club for the upcoming Championship season.
Preparations are now well underway for the upcoming 2021/22 campaign as nine members of the #BluesFamily are confirmed to be part of Mike Rayer’s squad with more to follow next week.
Fields, 28, sponsored by Mark A Howe, is the longest-serving member of Mike Rayer’s forward pack having made 84 appearances, scoring 11 tries.
Arriving in 2016, the hooker has faced stiff competition over the years for the number two jersey, battling with the likes of Charlie Clare, Tom Lindsay, George Edgson and more recently James Fish and Jack Hughes, but goes into his sixth season at the club as one of the team’s leaders.
Commenting on his decision to stay at Goldington Road, Fields added: “I’m pleased to re-sign at Bedford Blues. I’m looking forward to a full Championship campaign after what was a strange season last time out.
“I’m very settled in Bedford and looking forward to starting a proper pre-season next month ahead of what we hope will be an exciting Championship campaign.”
Barrett, 22, sponsored by The Beard Group, endured a frustrating opening few months at Goldington Road having started so brightly in pre-season before being hampered by injury just six minutes into his Championship debut.
The first injury of his career, Barrett showed plenty of grit and determination during his rehabilitation period and recovered to play tighthead prop at Nottingham away, then loosehead prop against Ampthill in the final games of the season.
Desperate to kick on this season and make an imprint on Championship rugby following his re-signing, Barrett said: “I’m delighted to stay at Bedford for a full Championship campaign. Last year was obviously frustrating with injury, but I’m determined to play my part in a successful Blues’ team this season.
“It’s exciting to be starting to get back to normality. After having a taste of the true Goldington Road atmosphere against Ampthill, I cannot wait to again play in-front of the supporters next season.”
