Northampton Saints Pre-Season Fixture

Posted: 2nd August 2021

Bedford Blues are delighted to confirm the first home pre-season fixture of the new season will be against Northampton Saints at Goldington Road on Friday 3rd September (KO 7:45pm).

It will be the first time Blues have faced Saints since signing a strategic partnership with our neighbours, having last hosted them back in March 2017.

Pat Tapley, a try scorer on that night, is the only remaining member of the #BluesFamily from that 52-17 defeat, while dual-reg coach Jake Sharp also featured.

Mike Rayer’s side will be looking to put pre-season into practice with a very challenging test against the Premiership side as both sides prepare for league competition. A further two friendlies will be announced soon.

Hospitality options are now on sale across all venues at Goldington Road; including The Dovecote Park Suite, Blues Marquee, The Burrow at the Blues and the SDC Suite. Contact matthew@bedfordrugby.co.uk to discuss availability and pricing.

Full ticket details will be available next week. Season Tickets are currently on sale, which this year include the pre-season fixtures and remain the most cost-effective way to support the Blues. Early Bird prices remain until Friday 13th August so don’t hesitate, secure your seat for the campaign here!

Looking ahead to the fixture, Blues Head Coach, Alex Rae said: “Our preparations have been going well so far in pre-season and it’s very exciting to have the game against Northampton to look forward to. From a player’s perspective, it’s great to test themselves against Premiership opposition and to put all the things we’ve been working on in training into practice against a quality side.

“Our relationship with Saints has been really good. All the lads who came across last year really bought into what we’re about and that’s testament to the lads themselves, but also the coaches who got right behind it. No doubt the relationship will go from strength to strength this season.

“It’s great to start with a big game that the fans can enjoy, I’m sure our fans will come out to watch, but also Northampton will bring lots of supporters. We can’t wait for everyone to return.”
