Team News v Ampthill

Posted: 27th August 2021

Mike Rayer has named a 28-man travelling squad as Bedford Blues begin preparations for the 2021/22 campaign with their first pre-season fixture against Ampthill tomorrow at Dillingham Park (KO 3pm).

Blues will make the short trip across the B530 to Dillingham Park looking to retain the Battle of Bedfordshire bragging rights obtained in May after winning the last Championship fixture between the two clubs 32-28.

The game will be the culmination of an initial six-week training regime which has seen the Northampton Saints contingent join into training this week ahead of the upcoming Championship campaign.

Following call-ups back to Franklin’s Gardens this weekend, familiar face Jamie Elliott will help make up the travelling Bedford contingent after training with the side in recent weeks.

In terms of absentees, hooker Jacob Fields has been ruled out for the opening few weeks of the campaign as he continues his recovery from a calf injury.

Second row Robin Williams is also out after dislocating his elbow but will return to non-contact training next week, while Joey Conway completes the injury list with a precautionary slight neural hamstring problem.

Bedford Blues Forwards Pack tomorrow:

Josh Pieterse, Corrie Barrett, Osman Dimen, Ed Prowse, Jack Hughes, Will Biggs, Callum Burns, Jordan Onojaife, Alex Woolford, Luke Frost, Ollie Newman, Bailey Ransom, Joe Atkinson, Tui Uru, Oli Stedman

Bedford Blues Backs Unit tomorrow:

Alex Day, Connor Tupai, Louis Grimoldby, Will Maisey, Andre Robson, Dean Adamson, Pat Tapley, Josh Gillespie, Jamie Elliott, Frank Kelly, Tom Litchfield, Matt Worley, Rich Lane
