Jamie Elliott confirms permanent signing
Bedford Blues are delighted to announce that following a scintillating start to the season, centre Jamie Elliott has now signed a contract until the end of the current Championship season.
The 29-year-old has played every minute of the season so far, including notching an important try in this month’s Battle of Bedfordshire victory over Ampthill and subsequently being named in the Championship Clubs Podcast Team of the Week.
It is his second spell at Bedford’s premier sporting club, following a brief stint in 2018 where he made a further six appearances, scoring one try.
On putting pen to paper, Elliott said: “I’m more than pleased to re-sign here at Bedford Blues. I loved it here last time and I always wanted to come back to Bedford at some point because it’s a great club, great team, who play the best style of rugby.
“The boys have always been welcoming and we’ve got that again this season. We’re in the early stages of it and we’re looking to kick on even further after a solid start to the campaign.”
Educated at Bedford School, Elliott was a product of the Northampton Saints academy, making 155 appearances for the Franklin’s Gardens outfit, including being handed his Premiership debut at just 18 years of age.
Part of the squad which lifted the Premiership and Challenge Cup double, Elliott was top try scorer for Saints in 2012/13 and has recently been put forward as a nomination for scorer of the Premiership’s best ever try, following his effort against Gloucester in 2013.
Following his departure from Saints, Elliott spent a trial period at Goldington Road, but was quickly snapped up by Italian club Zebre where he had remained until this summer, scoring seven tries from 46 appearances.
On the international scene, Elliott was capped at every age grade, helping England U20s lift the Grand Slam in 2011.
Commenting on Elliott extending his stay, Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer said: “Jamie coming home is brilliant news for everyone and sends a great message to our Mini & Junior section because now we have three former members in our backline! Jamie’s experienced, has great skills and is very versatile, so I’m extremely pleased the Board and private sponsorship allowed me to sign him until the end of the season.”
