MATCH FOCUS | Blues set sail for voyage to Cornish Pirates
Bedford Blues will be looking for a positive start to a hectic schedule around the Festive period when they make the longest mainland trip of the season to Cornish Pirates on Saturday (KO 12:30pm).

Big Game Preview
Mike Rayer’s side will be looking to break back into the Championship’s top four on Saturday after slipping down to fifth last time out, with just three points separating fourth from eighth with league position firmly at stake this weekend.
Bedford will head to Cornwall with the Championship’s leading marksman, Will Maisey (67 points) while trying to maintain their solid records in notable categories such as most try bonus points secured this season, best away record and highest points scorers on the road. Blues are second in all three of those categories, behind league leaders Ealing Trailfinders.
Cornish Pirates possess the Championship’s sternest defensive record having conceded just 97 points from six fixtures. They suffered a surprise defeat to Hartpury in Round Two of action in their only blemish so far this season, but responded with a rousing victory over Ealing Trailfinders at The Mennaye to position themselves second in the standings ahead of the weekend.
We’ve Met Before
Blues Director of Rugby, Rayer has faced Cornish Pirates more than any other side during his tenure at Goldington Road, contesting 40 fixtures against the side formerly known as Penzance & Newlyn RFC.
The two sides first did battle on 7th April 1958 and have contested a total of 44 fixtures to date. Cornish Pirates lead the series with 24 victories to Bedford’s 18, while there have also been two draws.
Blues head to Cornwall searching for their first victory at The Mennaye since 21st October 2018, when a superb individual try from current captain, Rich Lane secured a 30-29 success.
