Big Game Preview

Blues returned to the top four with an inspired 42-19 victory at Hartpury last time out as they ran in six tries to maintain their position as the Championship’s leading scorers on the road this season.

Mike Rayer’s side will try to replicate that form at home on Saturday while searching for back-to-back victories. Blues have been able to spring upsets in the past at GR, but will need every voice behind them on Saturday against the champions elect.

Ben Ward’s Trailfinders travel in buoyant mood following scoring a huge 174 points in their last two league matches against London Scottish and Coventry. Ealing sit two points clear at the top of the table, ahead of Cornish Pirates who inflicted their solitary defeat at The Mennaye in Round 4 action.

We’ve Met Before

Supporters may be surprised to know that this fixture is one of the most historic ones in our club’s history, starting over 130 years ago. Although a break of nine decades means the two sides have only met on 23 previous occasions.

Blues currently hold the superior record with 13 victories, while Ealing have won the remaining ten encounters in more recent times. Bedford won the first 12 meetings, including the very first at Goldington Road on 31st January 1891. Since October 2016, Trailfinders have won 10 of the past 11 between the two sides.

Food, Drink and Entertainment

Gates open from midday on Saturday, make sure to head into the ground early and sample everything we have to offer! Our choice this week would be to grab a programme and head to the Eagle Bar to try this week’s guest ale, Hobgoblin Gold.

Elsewhere get your usual favourites in The Scrum Bar, Former Players Bar and Eagle Stand Hut around the ground. Visit the Mini Fan Village on the North Terrace to try our Coffee and Cake Horsebox, Trailer Bar or new sweet unit.

There’s more live sport on show at GR as we bring you coverage of the Manchester Derby in football’s Premier League at lunchtime before the various Autumn Internationals will all be showed throughout the evening. These will all be shown in the Eagle Bar for public and Dovecote Park Suite for hospitality guests.

The Blues Marquee is the place to be post-match for the usual entertainment, with live music from the returning, Marc James following an excellent debut performance last time out!

There will be three Hot Food outlets available on matchday spread out across the ground; the Scrum Bar Serving Hatch, The Bedford Barn and The Burger Hut.

For this week only, the proceeds of the Eco Cup Charity Bin will be donated to the Poppy Appeal. Located next to the Marquee entrance, where you can also buy Followers’ Jackpot Tickets, drop them in to raise funds for this very worthy cause.

PLEASE NOTE: The Scrum Bar will close shortly before the final whistle due to this becoming a Red Zone area for the players.

Safety Briefing

With a short turnaround between our Fireworks Display & Funfair on Friday night and the visit of Ealing, we are asking for volunteers to help us turn Goldington Road back to pristine condition ahead of kick-off. Please head to the club between 8-10am to lend a hand if you have time.

All venues around Goldington Road will remain CASHLESS as part of our COVID risk management plan. Further safety precautions including a plentiful supply of hand sanitisers from stewards will be available on match day.

The Blues Club Shop will again open its doors from one hour before kick-off, at half-time and full-time. Please could only one person or household bubble enter at any one time.
