TEAM NEWS | Four Changes for Pirates Trip

Posted: 18th November 2021

Mike Rayer has named his squad as Bedford Blues look to break back into the Championship’s top four when they travel to The Mennaye to face second placed Cornish Pirates tomorrow lunchtime (KO 12:30pm).

Tickets for the longest mainland trip can be purchased direct from our hosts here. Alternatively, Pirates will also be live streaming the match – click here for that option.

Always a cracker, the Championship’s sternest defence is set to collide with the division’s second most potent attack as Blues look for a first victory on the Cornish coast since October 2018.

Director of Rugby, Rayer has faced Pirates more than any other club since taking the helm at Goldington Road, contesting 40 matches meaning both sides will know plenty about the other ahead of Saturday’s fixture.

There are four changes to the side which started two weeks ago, with just one of those alterations coming in the backs division as Louis Grimoldby comes back into the side to form an exciting 10-12 partnership with Will Maisey for the first time this season.

The Championship’s leading marksman, Maisey (67 points), moves to inside centre to accommodate Grimoldby’s inclusion.

In the forwards pack, there are two changes in the front row as Ed Prowse has recovered from illness to regain the tighthead jersey while Jack Hughes starts at hooker. On the other side of the scrum, Corrie Barrett starts at loosehead for the first time in a Blues jersey.

There are positional changes in the back row as Luke Frost moves to blindside and Bailey Ransom starts at openside. Jordan Onojaife comes in to partner Alex Woolford in the second row in his first start of the season.

Front row duo Jacob Fields and Will Biggs are the only injury absentees on Saturday.
