Big Game Preview

As the Championship approaches the halfway stage, Mike Rayer’s side will be looking for a reaction following a disappointing performance at Coventry last time out. Currently sitting in sixth place, the Blues will be looking to put pressure on the teams above ahead of a bye weekend.

Matt Williams’ London Scottish come into the game on the back of their own bye weekend, which followed their first victory of the campaign two weeks ago. The Exiles have been growing in confidence week on week and will be hoping to continue momentum at Goldington Road.

We’ve Met Before

A staple fixture from the 1930s to late 60s, Bedford and London Scottish have met infrequently since those regular occurrences for a total of 78 competitive matches. Blues will be hoping to draw level in the series, currently trailing 38 victories to 37, with a further three draws.

Over 700 days separate Saturday’s meeting from the last time the two teams squared off, where a late Dean Adamson try ensured Blues overturned a 17-point deficit to clinch victory at the Richmond Athletic Ground.

Festive Feast of Rugby

There’s no better base than Goldington Road for a full day of rugby as European competition returns on the TVs with several mouth-watering fixtures available to watch at the club. Before the main on pitch event, reigning champions Toulouse will begin their defence of the Champions Cup with a trip over the channel to face Cardiff (KO 1pm). This will be available in both The Scrum Bar and Eagle Bar.

Then afterwards, Champions Cup rugby continues in The Eagle Bar with Clermont Auvergne hosting Ulster from 5:30pm before Ali Hepher’s Exeter Chiefs take on French heavyweights, Montpellier (KO 8pm). The Dovecote Park Suite Hospitality will be showing all four featured matches on the screens.

Food, Drink and Entertainment

Gates open from midday on Saturday, head to the ground early and sample everything we have to offer! Why not grab a programme and visit one of our bars, with the added extra of this week’s guest ale, Bah Humbug available in The Eagle Bar.

Elsewhere, visit the Mini Fan Village on the North Terrace to try our Coffee and Cake Horsebox, Trailer Bar or returning Sweet Truck before getting set for the big match under the guidance of our match day announcers Sam and Will Roberts.

Post-match Ellie Antonini continues with live music in The Blues Marquee into the evening!

There will be three Hot Food outlets available on matchday spread out across the ground; the Scrum Bar Serving Hatch, The Bedford Barn and The Burger Hut.

PLEASE NOTE: The Scrum Bar will close shortly before the final whistle due to this becoming a Red Zone area for the players.

Safety Briefing

All venues around Goldington Road will remain CASHLESS as part of our COVID risk management plan. Further safety precautions including a plentiful supply of hand sanitisers from stewards will be available on match day.

Club Shop

Saturday’s game affords the final opportunity to pop into our Blues Club Shop before Christmas, with online orders available thereafter until Friday 17th December.

Full of a variety of gift ideas and stocking fillers, ranging from replica shirts to rucksacks, books to beanies. Tick another job off the list by sorting the presents early and make it a Blue Christmas for friends and family. Open from one hour before kick-off, at half-time and full-time.
