Rich Lane joins Bristol Bears on loan

Posted: 28th February 2022

Bedford Blues are pleased to announce that Rich Lane has today joined Bristol Bears on a month’s loan to provide emergency injury cover at last season’s Premiership semi-finalists.

A chance to work with such a talented group, littered with internationals and an excellent coaching group, will no doubt be a great opportunity for Lane to showcase his talents.

Going straight into contention following a medical this morning, Lane could make his Premiership debut against the club he started his career with; Bath, while there are other fixtures including at home to reigning Premiership champions, Harlequins coming up during March.

The agreement means Lane, who had started every game this term, will miss the club’s final two Championship fixtures, at home to Coventry and away at London Scottish later this month.

It is planned that Lane will be back to skipper the side in the Championship Cup campaign later this season. During the tournament, he will look to become the latest player to join the illustrious century club at Goldington Road, after the former Junior Blues graduate made his 97th appearance in yesterday’s victory at Nottingham.

Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer said: “Rich thoroughly deserves this opportunity to have a crack at the Premiership. He has been brilliant for us over several seasons now and he goes away with everyone’s best wishes. We have a bit of cover in the back three, so with him only missing the next couple of games it works well for us and Bristol at this time.

Lane added: “I’m extremely grateful to Mike and the club for allowing me this opportunity to test myself again in a Premiership environment. I won’t be away for long and look forward to being back for the Championship Cup.”
