MATCH FOCUS | Blues Women return home v Shelford
Bedford Blues Women will contest their first home league fixture for five months when they entertain Shelford Ladies Nomads in a top-of-the-table clash at Goldington Road this Sunday (KO 14:00).
After a couple of away trips since the historic first fixture for the team in their debut season at Goldington Road back in October, Mark Stapley’s side return home looking to win the NC3 Midlands (Central) division title against the only side who could possibly stop them this season.
Last Time Out
Bedford Blues Women have set up this title opportunity thanks to a dominating 31-5 away victory against Shelford at The Davey Field in their last fixture back in January.
Stapley’s side led from the outset and were 19-5 to the good at half-time thanks to tries from Emily Wallbank, Lauren Mason and the team’s perennial try scorer, Emma Graham.
Further scores in the second half from Player of the Match, Heidi Lawson and a second for Wallbank completed a hugely inspiring team performance as they took another massive step towards promotion.
Lucy Middleton, as always reliable from the tee, slotted three conversions over the course of the match.

Talking after the Shelford victory six weeks ago, Stapley said: “We’ve played Shelford a few times already in league and friendly fixtures, but this most recent meeting was by far the hardest.
“I’m just super proud of the team. When we started, all I wanted from the team was to make every game and survive, but to be at the top and quite a way ahead now is extremely pleasing.
“Please do come along and support the team, the team would really appreciate it and we look forward to seeing you all at Goldington Road on Sunday.”
Opposition Analysis
Shelford Ladies Nomads know this is last chance saloon if they want to make their own march towards the NC3 Midlands (Central) Division title and nothing but a victory will do for the visitors on Sunday.
Shelford have two ladies’ teams competing in the divisional system for the first time in their history as the game continues to flourish at senior and youth development age grades across the country.

The Scrum Bar and The Burrow at the Blues will all be open to grab a pre and post-match pint with all the usual favourites on offer! Table bookings are advised for The Burrow and can be booked direct by clicking here, walk-ups permitted if tables are free.
Only the Apron Seats within The Eagle Stand will be in use on Sunday alongside pitch side standing room.
The team will conclude their NC3 Midlands (Central) Division campaign at Bedford Athletic RFC on Sunday 20th March against Letchworth GC Ladies.
