MATCH FOCUS | Cup journey begins at Nottingham
Bedford Blues begin their quest for a first trophy since 2005 when they travel to Nottingham under the Friday Night Lights in the first leg of their Championship Cup Round One encounter (KO 7:45pm).

Big Game Preview
The two sides last faced each other just under six weeks ago so both should be adequately equipped for Friday’s meeting in Nottingham. Carrying a first-leg advantage over to Goldington Road will be important so both teams will be looking to stamp their authority on the tie early.
Since that meeting at Lady Bay, both sides have experienced some indifferent form to conclude the Championship campaign which saw Bedford finish 5th and Nottingham 10th. Some of Blues’ better recent performances have come on the road so they will look to continue that streak as Dean Adamson searches for his 100th Blues try.
Nottingham will be looking for their first victory since 19th February when Blues head to town. They have played some good rugby in-front of their home supporters but are three without a win at Lady Bay recently following defeats to Bedford, Richmond and Doncaster Knights.
We’ve Met Before
The two sides have famously met over two legs before during the 2012/13 Championship Play-Off Semi-Finals; Bedford advancing to face Newcastle Falcons in the final after a 26-17 home success and a 23-21 victory on the road.
A real, traditional rugby fixture between two historic sides; Bedford Blues and Nottingham have squared off against each other on 106 competitive occasions. Throughout history Bedford have dominated, excluding Nottingham’s 1980s heyday, the Blues have registered 71 wins to Nottingham’s 32 alongside two draws.
Blues hold somewhat of a psychological advantage ahead of the two-legs having won both meetings in this season’s Championship; securing a 40-9 success at Goldington Road before triumphing 47-22 at Lady Bay in February.
