Jordan Onojaife latest to commit for 2022/23

Posted: 20th May 2022

Bedford Blues are pleased to announce another of the club’s key talismanic players, Jordan Onojaife, has signed a new contract to remain part of the #BluesFamily next season.

Onojaife, 26, sponsored by Bedford Battery, is one of the Blues longest serving current players with the Century Club on the horizon having already made 72 appearances, contributing five crucial tries.

After agreeing to stay on for a fourth season as a permanent member of the squad, Onojaife said: “I’m really excited to have signed again here at Bedford, I absolutely love this club and the fans have been brilliant with me right from the first time I arrived from Northampton.

“Last year was a bit of a stop-start season for me so I’m looking forward to building some strong foundations in pre-season and hopefully, as a squad, we can learn from our experiences and challenge higher up the table.

“I always look forward to our home games as the #BluesFamily are the best supporters in the league and make Goldington Road a really special place to play rugby.”

Onojaife originally joined Bedford on loan from Northampton Saints for the later stages of 2017 before returning full-time ahead of the 2019/20 campaign following a stint with Ealing Trailfinders.

One of two Blues players named in the Championship Dream Team for 2019/20, Onojaife will be hoping to re-discover his best form in 2022/23 to follow on from 17 appearances and two tries last term.

Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer added: “Jordan keeps growing and getting better the longer he’s with us. His ball carrying has been excellent this year and he’s been really good in defensive lineouts.

“Ultimately, Jordan gets us. He comes in with a smile on his face and he’s developing into a real character amongst the lads. He’s still fairly young, mid 20s, so there’s still loads of scope for further improvement, and we’re delighted to have him back again next season.”
