Lane wins Followers Player of the Season
Departing captain Rich Lane has concluded his time at Goldington Road in the perfect fashion by securing the 2021/22 Bedford Rugby Followers Association Player of the Season award.
Before his initial loan switch to Premiership heavyweights Bristol Bears – a move which has now been made permanent – Lane was an ever present for Bedford in the campaign and led the side by example having been named captain at the start of the season.
He made 18 Championship appearances before heading to Ashton Gate, chipping in with numerous assists and three vital tries including against Jersey Reds on Boxing Day, and played more minutes in the league (1,413) than any other Blues player.
Lane becomes the first player to retain the award having won it for the first time in 2019. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the shield had not been presented since.
