Luke Frost next to re-commit to Bedford
Bedford Blues are pleased to announce the fifth member of the #BluesFamily squad for the 2022/23 campaign with the news that Luke Frost has re-committed his future after a stellar debut campaign.
The 24-year-old, sponsored by Eagle Brewery, racked up an incredible amount of time on the field last season and played more than any other when including his short stint at Northampton Saints for their Premiership Cup exploits back in March, totalling 1,766 minutes across 24 appearances.
Frost said: “I’m really looking forward to the new season. I absolutely loved my first season here, especially because of the fans who returned post COVID and really spurred us on.
“Playing those two games for Northampton Saints was a great experience and fair play to Mike for allowing me the opportunity to go and play there. When I came back to Goldington Road for the Cup, it really did feel like home again. It’s a special place.
“As a squad, we know we can do better and improve upon last season. We’re ready to go that extra step further next season which is really exciting; we just need to get some more consistency in our performances.”
One of the most dependable Championship back-five forwards, Frost has made close to 100 appearances in the second tier despite his relative young years, following previous stints at London Scottish and Nottingham.
He was one of four nominated into the Championship Team of the Season conversation this term, following his exploits in blue, equally adapting when chosen in the engine room of second row or at blindside flanker.
Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer added: “Frosty got lots of minutes on the clock last season and that’s only going to benefit him. What an example he leads in training, he gives everything and likes to be involved in all the lineout stuff as well.
“He’s another who’s not afraid of hard work. He’s done his teacher training qualifications, he’s aspirational and working hard to give rugby as much as he can as well. If he picks up a Premiership contract further down the line it will be all down to him because he is a workaholic.
“He’s mad keen to play rugby and we’ve enjoyed having him around. He’s been excellent for us and has filled that hybrid lock/back row role – he works from minute one to minute 80 and leads from the front in that sense.
“We thought we might lose him at one stage, particularly after those couple of games for Saints where he acquitted himself well. We’re delighted to have him again this year.”
