Blues Core Squad announced for 2022/23

Bedford Blues are pleased to announce that with over two weeks still left to go until pre-season training begins at Goldington Road, the core squad for the 2022/23 campaign is now fully in place and ready to come back better than ever for the new season.

With the contingent from Northampton Saints yet to be revealed, there are 22 confirmed members of the squad with greater continuity than evidenced in previous years as 17 players are retained for another exciting Championship campaign at Goldington Road.

Between those players staying on for 2022/23, they have made 759 appearances for Bedford Blues, contributing 1,387 points.

The standout news sees former captain Michael Le Bourgeois return to the club from Wasps; while we welcome four new faces into the #BluesFamily with the arrivals of Monty Royston (Durham University), Jac Arthur (Ampthill), Charles Rylands (Cardiff Metropolitan University) and Seán French (Munster).

Looking ahead to the new campaign, Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer said: “This group deserves another season at least – I think continuity is everything. If we can re-create the atmosphere that has been around the place this year, then that’s going to massively help us turn those one-score losses into victories.

“It’s been really good recently to be able to go back into the Marquee and chat with the supporters. The boys get that and understand the relationship with the town; it was fantastic to see so many of them at the Junior Blues presentations in the last few weeks – Tom Litchfield came to one as well from Saints.

“Hopefully we’ll be able to do more of that activity stuff next year. I just think the connection is growing between all the stakeholders – the team, the community – and it’s great to see.”
