Tui Uru remains at Goldington Road for 2022/23
Bedford Blues confirm their final re-signing ahead of the 2022/23 Championship campaign with the announcement that Tui Uru will extend his time at Goldington Road.
An important member of the pack last season, being utilised as one of the club’s chief ball carriers, Uru really kicked on last season having signed permanently following a period of dual-reg from Northampton Saints, scoring three tries from 22 appearances.
On committing his future to the club, Uru said: “The 2021/22 campaign at Goldington Road was the most enjoyable of my career. I feel like I've developed a lot in the last three years and within this most recent season, playing week in week out, that did loads for me and building my confidence back following a frustrating COVID period.
"As a group, we didn't get the results we wanted last season but I'm confident that with this team, we can go into next season continuing to drive standards and competition for team selection. It'll be great to get back out on the pitch with everyone again after a solid pre-season which begins in a few weeks' time.
"Thanks again to the #BluesFamily for their continued support; I'm looking forward to making even more memories in the Blues jersey next season."
Beginning his senior career with Bury St Edmunds, Uru, sponsored by Bedfordshire Golf Club, made 38 appearances in National 2 South before attracting the attention of Saints in 2019.
Featuring predominantly for the Wanderers, Uru made four appearances off the bench for the Premiership side in 2019/20 alongside a loan stint at Nottingham.
He was part of the core group of Northampton players to link up at Goldington Road for the shortened 2021 campaign and scored in the pre-season victory over Ampthill, becoming a regular in the matchday squad thereafter and following his permanent move.
Director of Rugby, Mike Rayer added: “Tui has been a real standout this season and that’s down to game time. After he joined Northampton, COVID hit pretty quickly so he hadn’t had too much rugby there.
“The fact he’s come here, knuckled down and shown some great attributes is a real credit to him. We all knew he had the attacking game; he’s been one of our principle ball carriers and again, he’s another lad who simply works his socks off.
“He goes about his business, gets on with things, and who knows what’s ahead of him after another year of Championship rugby because I think there’s a lot more to come from Tui.”
