Jacob Fields set to join century club
Bedford Blues hooker Jacob Fields is to become the latest member of the illustrious century club at Goldington Road having been named in the Starting XV for tomorrow’s Championship fixture against Caldy.
The 29-year-old is the longest serving current member of Mike Rayer’s forwards pack, making 99 appearances – scoring 11 tries – since arriving in April 2016.
He will become the fourth member of the current squad to join the century club, following in the footsteps of backs trio Dean Adamson, Michael Le Bourgeois and Pat Tapley.
Arriving in the final weeks of the successful 2015/16 campaign; Fields has never looked back, becoming an integral part of the club both on and off the pitch.
He has faced stiff competition over the years for the number two jersey, battling with the likes of Charlie Claire, Tom Lindsay, George Edgson and more recently, Jack Hughes, but has become one of the team’s real leaders.
On reaching the milestone, Fields said: “It is a nice moment for me, especially when you look at the list of impressive names on over 100 games.
“Going back to when I first joined, and through my time at the club, I’ve played with and looked up to the boys who still now have a lot more appearances than me such as Ollie Dodge, Paul Tupai, Alex Rae, Jake Sharp, Mike Howard, Ben Cooper so it puts it into perspective just home many games they played.
“It’s probably been somewhat of a long time coming due to injuries and the period without rugby due to COVID. It’s not something you aim for or even think about too much but it’s a nice milestone to get. Hopefully we play well, and tomorrow’s performance can be a good memory.”
