MATCH FOCUS | Blues set sail for Cornish Pirates
Bedford Blues will be looking to make it back-to-back Championship victories by carrying last weekend’s momentum into their longest mainland trip of the season to Cornish Pirates on Saturday (KO 14:30pm).

Big Game Preview
Mike Rayer’s side currently sit atop of the Championship standings in terms of points scored at home – following the 49-36 victory over London Scottish last time out – and will be looking to take that form on the road this weekend.
Bedford head to Cornwall with the Championship’s leading marksman, Will Maisey (22 points) and one of the joint top scorers so far this season, with Dean Adamson joining five other players on three tries from the opening two rounds of fixtures.
Cornish Pirates have a mean home record, going unbeaten in the Championship in 2021/22, and last suffering defeat in league competition on home soil in April 2021. They have narrowly come through both fixtures this season, to sit third in the table, and will be looking for a statement performance to kickstart their campaign.
We’ve Met Before
Blues Director of Rugby, Rayer has faced Cornish Pirates more than any other side during his tenure at Goldington Road, contesting 44 fixtures against the side formerly known as Penzance & Newlyn RFC.
The two sides contested four cracking fixtures last season across league and cup, with Pirates edging every one of them, so Blues will be looking to put things right on Saturday. Pirates’ dominance last season has extended their lead in the overall standings to 26 wins compared to Bedford’s 17, while there has only been one draw throughout history.
Blues head to Cornwall searching for their first victory at The Mennaye since 21st October 2018, when a superb individual try from former captain, Rich Lane secured a 30-29 success.
