MATCH FOCUS | Cup quest begins for Blues Women
Bedford Blues Women begin their 2022/23 campaign with cup action as they travel to face divisional rivals, St Neots Ladies in the first round of the Women’s Junior Cup (Sunday 18th September; KO 2:30pm).
After an impressive pre-season, which included victory at Stockwood Park in their final warm-up fixture two weeks ago, Darryl Veenendaal and Peter Frost’s side will be looking for a strong start to the new season by securing progression in the premier cup competition.
Big Game Preview
With no cup competition taking place in their debut season last year, this will be the first competitive experience for Bedford Blues Women of contesting knockout rugby.
Bedford and St Neots help compose the same NC2 Midlands (Central) Division so as well as cup progression, there’s also psychological advantage at stake as the two sides do battle again in just two weeks’ time at the same venue.

What follows this cup contest?
After winning the NC3 title earlier this year, Bedford Blues Women are gearing up for a season in a new tier as they head into an eight-team NC2 Midlands (Central) Division alongside local rivals and teams with an established history.
Earlier this week, four home matches were announced as being staged at Goldington Road, including the league curtain raiser against Peterborough Ladies (25th September; KO 2:30pm).
Fixtures against Milton Keynes Women, St Neots and Rugby Lionesses will also take place at Goldington Road throughout the season; click here for the full 22/23 fixture list.
Opposition Analysis
An established side at this level, St Neots Ladies finished the 2021/22 campaign as runners-up, just three points behind the eventual champions, Olney. They have remained in NC2 Midlands (Central) following the Summer re-shuffle and will be one of the toughest opposition this season.
