MATCH FOCUS | Home Championship opener

Old rivalries renew as Bedford Blues contest their first home Championship fixture of the season against London Scottish at Goldington Road this Saturday in the club’s Family Fun Day (Gates open 12pm; KO 3pm).

Big Game Preview

Mike Rayer’s charges will be desperate to start their home campaign on the perfect footing, whilst also re-writing the wrongs of last weekend as ill-discipline proved costly against rivals Coventry.

After not featuring in the Rotherham friendly, Saturday’s game is set to see the Goldington Road return of Michael Le Bourgeois as well as a competitive home debut for the four summer recruits.

Bryan Redpath’s London Scottish are also a wounded animal following a home defeat against Nottingham a week ago. Striking a Strategic Partnership agreement with Harlequins in the off-season gives them access to a wider player pool with changes anticipated from both sides this weekend.

Saturday will be the 81st time the two sides have met, Blues wrestling back the ascendency last April to lead the series 39-38, with three draws.

A tribute to Her Majesty

The rugby family came together last weekend to respect the passing of The Queen Elizabeth II, and this will continue again on Saturday at Goldington Road.

Both sides will wear black armbands and there will be a minute’s silence before kick-off followed by the national anthem with the Union Jack continuing to fly at half-mast.

Family Fun Day

Bring the kids along and enjoy a fun-filled afternoon at the home of Bedford’s premier sporting club.

Blues Foundation will be running a host of activities inside the CMC Marquee, including their passing cage, while there will also be face painting and treats available from Say Doughnuts and Fujj. Outside on the training pitch, there will be a bouncy castle and activities from SSG Services to enjoy.

The Community Guard of Honour, sponsored by Bellway Homes, returns with Bedford Junior Blues U11s and Huntingdon Rugby Club U14s joining us to form the tunnel and enjoy a match day experience with Blues Foundation. Make sure to give them a cheer as the teams run out.

Food, Drink and Entertainment

Gates open at midday, head to the ground early and sample everything on offer! Grab the first programme of the season for 48 pages of engaging content and all you need to know for the match ahead. Why not read it in one of our several bars, our pre-game choice would be the upstairs Eagle Bar, with the added extra of this week’s guest ale, Wainwright’s Amber.

PLEASE NOTE: The CMC Marquee remains open throughout the day as a public bar while all the Family Fun Day activation takes place.

There will be three Hot Food outlets available on matchday spread out across the ground; the Scrum Bar Serving Hatch, The Bedford Barn (now relocated to the Mini Fan Village on the North Terrace) next to the Coffee & Cake Horsebox and The Burger & Sausage Hut at the entrance.

Post-match, live music with Ellie Antonini returns in the CMC Marquee to play you into the evening as well as the Man of the Match award, this week sponsored by RAS Data.

SwipeStation is back, join the fast lane! If you are unfamiliar with the system which launched in The Scrum Bar last season then more information is available here.

Blues Eco-Cups

The latest in our range of collectable eco-cups will be launched this Saturday with a special #BluesFamily edition. The design features current and former Blues stars, the Bedford Blues Women’s captain, Bedford Junior Blues and you, our incredible supporters.
