MATCH FOCUS | Blues look for strong showing at Doncaster
Bedford Blues will be looking to main their excellent form of the last three weeks when they go in search of a first victory at Castle Park in almost a decade against Doncaster Knights on Saturday (KO 14:30).

Possessing their best run of form in the Championship since December 2018, confidence is flowing at Goldington Road, but this trip to Yorkshire feels like a real acid test for Mike Rayer’s side as they face a Doncaster Knights team who ran Ealing Trailfinders all the way for the title last term.
Blues have been making a habit of breaking long-standing unbeaten home records on their travels recently – securing wins at fortresses such as Ealing and Cornish Pirates – and will need to do the same on Saturday to get a positive result.
Steve Boden’s Doncaster Knights have tasted defeat in their league on their own patch since April 2021. They will be desperate to put down a marker on the campaign following an indifferent start after four games, suffering two defeats, and will look to their home crowd to get them over the line.
We’ve Met Before
A relatively new fixture, yet not without its drama already; Bedford and Doncaster have met on 35 previous occasions in competitive action. The Knights currently hold the superior head-to-head record with 18 victories to the Blues’ 15, while there have also been two draws.
Bedford won the first meeting between the sides in September 2005 – Mike Rayer’s first home match as DoR of the Club – as Donny arrived in National One following a surge up the rugby pyramid.
One of the toughest places to go in the Championship, Bedford will be in search of a first victory at Castle Park since November 2012, when Brendan Burke converted a late Josh Bassett try to secure a 22-21 victory.
