MATCH FOCUS | Blues Women return with local derby
Bedford Blues Women will be searching for their first victory of the 2022/23 campaign when they entertain Biggleswade this Sunday (KO 2pm).
A three-week break from competitive action has allowed Darryl Veenendaal and Peter Frost’s team to regroup and they will be ready to come out firing on all cylinders this weekend to re-ignite their league and cup campaign.
Big Game Preview
After a disappointing opening two fixtures in league and cup action, Blues Women will be hoping to return to winning ways with a strong showing on derby day – as they face Biggleswade for the very first time.
The team has been showing signs of further progression in training and throughout recent fixtures – they will be looking to put it all together on Sunday, hopefully buoyed by a strong crowd at Bedford Athletic RFC.

Joint Head Coach, Peter Frost said: “We are really looking forward to this fixture; Biggleswade came fourth in this division last season so will provide tough opposition.
“We needed to regroup after the Peterborough game last month. Fair play to the team; their energy, work rate and desire to improve in the last few weeks of training has been phenomenal and we couldn’t have asked for more as a coaching staff.
“We’re all looking forward to getting back on the pitch, it’s another chance to improve and build on the ability which I know exists within this squad.”
What follows this league encounter?
There are still five fixtures to be played after Sunday’s encounter and before 2022 draws to its conclusion; two of which at Goldington Road vs Milton Keynes (Sunday 20th November) and St Neots (Saturday 17th December).
In terms of the immediate future, Blues Women are on their travels next weekend as they head to Royston on Sunday 23rd October (Postcode: SG8 5BG).
Following a draw earlier this week, the team will then contest their Women’s Junior Plate cup clash against Welwyn Ladies on Sunday 30th October at Bedford Athletic RFC.
Opposition Analysis
An established side but only in their second season at this level, Biggleswade finished fourth last season and will be looking to continually progress, while securing their first victory of the season.
They have had a difficult start to the campaign, sadly forfeiting their last fixture at home to Buckingham Swans II, while suffering a 48-0 defeat at Royston on the opening day.
