MATCH FOCUS | Blues Women return to league action
Bedford Blues Women will be looking to bounce back to winning ways when they face Buckingham Swans Ladies II for the very first time at Bedford Athletic RFC this afternoon (KO 2pm).
Darryl Veenendaal and Peter Frost’s side have made a solid start to their NC2 Midlands (Central) campaign and will be looking to continue building as a team, backed by a vociferous support on home soil.

Now that interests in the cup competitions have ended, full focus can now be put onto league matters in the hunt to chase down the league’s standout two performers, runaway leaders Peterborough and St Neots.
Just a point separates the two sides heading into the fixture so it’s all to play for when the two sides do battle this afternoon.

For the first time this season, Blues Women have named a 21-player matchday squad going into the fixture as women’s rugby continues to thrive in the town.
Some injuries have forced a re-shuffle to the system but there’s many positives to take from looking at the team sheet with numerous players selected to start for the very first time and a couple of debutants set to take to the field as well.
What follows this league clash?
The countdown to Christmas is well and truly on but Blues Women will have to contest a further three fixtures following today’s play before they can rest and relax for the big day.
Two of those fixtures take place on the hallowed turf at Goldington Road including next weekend as Milton Keynes head to town (Sunday 20th November) before a historic first ever Saturday fixture against St Neots (Saturday 17th December).
The final away trip of 2022 is sandwiched in the middle to Rugby Lionesses on Sunday 4th December.
Opposition Analysis
Sat one point and one league place above Blues Women heading into the contest, it’s been the most bizarre of seasons so far for Buckingham Swans Ladies II.
They haven’t actually scored a point so far this season having received two walkover victories to begin the season vs Biggleswade and Royston. Two heavy defeats to St Neots (49-0) and Milton Keynes (69-0) have since followed having at least taken to the field.
