Big Game Preview
Two of the Championship’s leading points scorers will collide away from the mainland on Saturday with only league leaders Ealing Trailfinders scoring more than the pair who have accumulatively added close to 600 points already this season (Jersey have scored 297, Bedford 289.)
After failing to end Ealing’s perfect start to the campaign in league and cup last season, Blues will get another opportunity to halt the momentum of an unbeaten Championship side, but will be more than aware of the challenge that faces them from the second tier’s best forwards pack.
With swirling wind forecast for the Island, it could become a war of attrition, but Blues have proven they can match it with the best up-front already this season following the barnstorming victory down at Cornish Pirates back in September.
Jersey, meanwhile, have been near faultless this season and have only missed out on a bonus point in two of their Championship outings this season. Harvey Biljon’s side are going to run Ealing all the way this campaign; Blues will hoping to put a bump in that road on Saturday and retain hopes of spending Christmas Day in the Top Four places.
We’ve Met Before
A relatively new league fixture with the first meeting between the two sides taking place just a decade ago, Bedford and Jersey have faced each other on 19 previous competitive occasions.
Jersey currently hold the better head-to-head record with eleven victories compared to Bedford’s eight. Blues will get on the plane searching for their first victory on the Island since September 2017 when tries from Rich Lane and Harry Sheppard did the damage.
