MATCH FOCUS | First ever trip to Caldy
Bedford Blues will be looking to maintain their recent rich vein of form when they make a first ever trip to the Wirral to face in-form Caldy at Paton Field this Saturday (KO 2pm).

Big Game Preview
After securing a third successive victory for the second time this season, Mike Rayer’s side will be looking to go one better on Saturday and make it four on the spin. In a real battle of the two in-form Championship sides, to achieve that feat, Blues will have to overcome a Caldy side who stunned Ealing just three weeks ago.
Blues remain the second highest points scorers in the Championship, trailing only the league leaders, and have started to sure up their defence in recent matches by conceding just four tries in the last three games.
Matt Cairns’ Caldy are themselves on a fantastic run of form, showing no signs of an after the Lord Mayor’s show blip by backing up the Ealing result with wins over Richmond and Nottingham. They’ll use their north-westerly conditions to their advantage when trying to add Bedford to their list of scalps in their debut campaign in the second tier of English rugby.
We’ve Met Before
Prior to this season, Bedford’s only real connection to Caldy is while Denis Ormesher was in-charge of the Blues Academy and taking a side to the Wirral for a 7s tournament.
An historic first ever meeting between the two sides came back in October and played host to our most recent Ladies Day festivities. Caldy finished strong in the game and showed early glimpses of the things they have now perfected, but Blues were too strong on the day in a 52-29 victory.
