MATCH FOCUS | Blues Women set for Milton Keynes trip
Bedford Blues Women will be looking to maintain their perfect start to 2023 when they make a first ever trip across to Milton Keynes this Sunday (KO 2pm).
After a long break from competitive action due to fixture postponements, Darryl Veenendaal and Peter Frost’s side will be eager to get going again as they look to end the campaign on as strong a footing as possible with just four fixtures left to go.
Big Game Preview
Two of the top teams in the division are set to collide on Sunday with both still harbouring ambitions of concluding the season inside the Top Four, with Milton Keynes also ready to pounce should Peterborough make any slip-ups during their run-in.
An exciting 43-8 contest was served up when the two sides met at Goldington Road back in November and we’re anticipating more fireworks again on the weekend with league points vital at this stage of the campaign.

By the time Sunday comes around, Blues Women will have gone six weeks without a fixture following cancellations and forfeits from their opponents.
In fact, they have only played once in 12 weeks so the hope is that these prolonged breaks – although frustrating – should mean additional availability with a lot of walking wounded in the squad.

What follows this league clash?
Sunday’s fixture kickstarts a really exciting run of fixtures to conclude the 2022/23 campaign with three more games to follow this one, including two at Goldington Road.
In their debut season at this level, following winning the title last term, Veenendaal and Frost’s side have stood up to the challenge of life in another tier and have a genuine opportunity to finish inside the Top Four positions with it all still to play for.
They face all their rivals for those highly positions, motivated by suffering defeat in all the reverse fixtures, and a few wins along the way to the finish line should see them celebrating come April 2nd.

Opposition Analysis
If Peterborough weren’t in the league, you’d say Milton Keynes were having a barnstorming season but it appears they’ll be desperately unlucky in their quest for promotion having suffered home and away defeats to the champions elect.
Outside of those games, Milton Keynes have been in unbelievable form, scoring the second most points and conceding the second least. They were impressive last time out away at St Neots and are set to finish the campaign in second place, although Blues could have something to say about that if they can upset the odds on the weekend.
